AN OPEN LETTER TO THREE EXCELLENT BROTHERS

AN OPEN LETTER TO THREE EXCELLENT BROTHERS
(Carl Nelson, Dr. Claud Anderson, and Min. Louis Farrakhan)

For many generations Race-conscious blacks have questioned wistfully what might have happened if W.E.B. DuBois had joined forces with — in turn, Carter G. WoodsonBooker T. Washington, and Marcus M. Garvey? What could have been the result if Martin Luther King had joined forces with Elijah Muhammad, or with Malcolm X? For whatever reason, no unity took place between or among any of those giant figures in Black American history, and the current condition of our people is a reflection of that failure. However, all need not be considered lost. In the year 2016, there are three black men of note who are in positions to rectify the mistakes of those past advocates for black uplift and advancement, namely Carl Nelson, veteran black talk radio show host; Dr. Claud Anderson, author of Powernomics: The National Plan to Empower Black America; and Minister Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation Of Islam. All three of these gentlemen are well known among Race-conscious blacks, so I will not dwell on their past accomplishments in this letter. Rather, I will propose a course of action the three of them could take that could have a tremendously powerful impact on improving the life prospects of people of African descent in America, and by extension, throughout the African Diaspora.

Carl Nelson is arguably the most listened-to and highly respected black talk radio host among Race-conscious African-Americans. He knows personally, all of the most recognized black spokespersons in America, and has had many of them as guests on his daily show on WOLDC.news. In June of this year, Carl Nelson will convene and host his third annual “Power Talk” event in Washington, DC. Claud Anderson will be among the Power-Talkers on program, as will Minister Farrakhan’s National Spokesperson, Dr. Ava Muhammad. A dozen or more of the foremost conscious black spokespersons in the country will join Dr. Anderson and Dr. Muhammad in giving speeches to the 2,000 or so attendees at the event. I hereby propose that Brother Carl use his influence with his esteemed roster of guest speakers to facilitate two (2) specific actions prompted by conversations on his show recently. Perhaps the invited speakers could be asked to arrive in D.C. a day early, and a meeting be held among them to discuss and consider the two actions proposed below:

Proposed Action #1: Establish a Legal Fund to Hire Competent Attorneys to Provide Representation to Deserving Fighters for Black Uplift and Advancement.

Among the first to benefit from such a fund could be Rev. Edward Pinkney of Benton Harbor, Michigan, who is currently being unjustly imprisoned as punishment for his long-term fight against racist practices in his home city. My colleague, Prof. Jim Clingman, is in direct contact with Rev. Pinkney’s inner-circle of supporters, including Mrs. Pinkney, and could play a facilitator role if asked by the three esteemed Brothers. Once put in place, such a legal fund could provide an ongoing bulwark against attacks on black advocates who generally have limited resources with which to hire competent legal representation. It could also solve the dilemma of unrealistically expecting qualified, competent attorneys to provide such complex, difficult legal services on a ‘pro-bono’ basis.

Given Minister Farrakhan’s proven ability to draw a million or more persons to a single location, a’la the Million Man March in 1995 and the “10-10-15 Justice or Else” event in 2015, he could use his influence to persuade the millions who attended those events to contribute a modest amount each to establish the fund. The Nation Of Islam could also administer the fund, with Carl Nelson and Claud Anderson serving as two of its trustees.

Proposed Action #2: Call upon all of Carl Nelson’s “Power Talkers” to consider serving as affiliated scholars with Dr. Anderson’s “Harvest Institute” think-tank.

According to Brother Carl, Dr. Anderson’s Institute is the only black controlled think tank in the country, so it would make perfect sense for all those highly intelligent, eminently qualified advocates for black uplift, to join forces with Dr. Anderson and make his think tank the powerful force for good that our Race needs it to be. A by-product of such an enlightened action on the part of the great minds could be that other Race-conscious blacks are likely to be favorably inspired by such a demonstration of “operational unity” as has long been advocated by the esteemed Dr. Maulana Karenga, and follow-suit in other endeavors.

Perhaps Brother Carl could invite Dr. Anderson and Minister Farrakhan to guest on a special episode of his “Big Show” to air prior to Power Talk 3 to share preliminary thoughts on this prospect.

As some wise person once said, “Nothing beats a failure but a try.” Who agrees that such a collaboration is well worth a try?
