Most people are familiar with the fact that there are a wide variety of religions in the world, and that the largest among them have numerous denominations, sects, and variations in practices. This is true of all the “major” religions, but especially so of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
Most of us are familiar with the term “melting-pot” as it is used in reference to the population make-up of the United States. It ties closely with yet another term: “Out of many, one.” Both terms suggest that the many races, ethnicities, cultures and nationalities which are reflected in the U.S. population all combine to produce a single, new homogeneous whole.
